Sept. 26, 2016
– Washington Wizards forward
announces the first of a series of projects to benefit flood relief efforts in his home state of Louisiana. Starting Monday, Sept. 26, all proceeds from the sale of the limited edition t-shirt line, available only online at Teespring.com, will go to United Way of Southeast Louisiana’s Flood Relief Fund to assist in long-term recovery. The two-week campaign comes in the wake of the region’s heavy flooding in mid-August, where thousands of Louisiana residents were displaced from their homes and jobs.
The sophomore guard was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana where his family lived before moving to Texas following Hurricane Katrina. Despite the move, Kelly still calls The Crescent City home, “It breaks my heart every time I see or hear of the devastating flooding happening in my home state of Louisiana,” Kelly shared. “I encourage everyone to go to
and join me in helping to provide assistance to those who are in desperate need. Every purchase will go a long way in our ongoing efforts to rebuild the state.”
Flood waters were still rising when United Way of Southeast Louisiana began collecting funds and truckloads of supplies to help neighbors in need. So far, more than 530,000 relief items—everything from bottled water, diapers and toiletries to cleaning necessities such as mops, buckets, bleach and rubber gloves—have been distributed to help flood victims. United Way is also working with volunteers and community partners to muck and gut homes.
United Way of Southeast Louisiana President and CEO Michael Williamson says, “Through hurricanes, tornadoes and floods, our residents have proven they are resilient. But sometimes we all need help. Long-term recovery and rebuilding takes time and money. And, it’s more than just brick and mortar. United Way supported programs with nonprofit partners will continue to provide food, counseling and other services to make people whole again. United Way thanks hometown hero Kelly Oubre for his generosity. Together, we can rebuild lives and communities across Louisiana.”
The exclusive t-shirt line will available for sale only online at teespring.com/KellyOubreLAFloodRelief for $25.00 starting today through Monday Oct. 10. Proceeds from the t-shirt sales will go to United Way of Southeast Louisiana flood relief efforts.
